Connecting renewables to the grid.
We support grid-connection applications for solar plants and grid-scale battery storage in Japan, and help overseas manufacturers bring their PCS and batteries to the Japanese market. As an advisor to EPCs and power producers, we review both the drawings and the application documents.
Services
Numbers refer to Fig. 1- 1
Grid-connection applications
We take you through pre-consultation, the interconnection study and the connection application with the general transmission and distribution utility. We explain how high-voltage and low-voltage connections differ and which documents to submit in what order, and we help you read the study results, including construction cost contributions and lead times.
- 2
Substation and protection review
We review protection relays and receiving equipment so that the configuration is ready for consultation with the utility.
- 3
Regulatory decisions for power plants
We organize the decisions that involve Japanese regulations: FIT and FIP business plan approvals, moving from FIT to FIP, preparing for output curtailment, and adding batteries to existing plants.
- 4
Compliance of overseas equipment
We check whether PCS and batteries from overseas manufacturers meet Japanese grid-connection requirements, based on datasheets and test reports. Where documents are missing, we work directly with the manufacturer.
One retainer covering 1–4:
advisory contract
A monthly contract that saves you from finding a specialist for each project. It works well while your team has no in-house expert on grid connection or batteries.
- Technical review of projects and next steps
- Briefings when regulations or market rules change
- Technical coordination with overseas manufacturers on your behalf

Frequently asked questions
- We are an overseas manufacturer entering the Japanese market. Can you be our technical contact in Japan?
- Yes. We handle technical communication with Japanese EPCs and utilities on your behalf, in English and Japanese.
- How do we confirm that our PCS meets Japanese grid-connection requirements?
- We review your datasheets and test reports against the national technical requirements and each utility's own requirements, and tell you which documents or test data are still missing.
- We plan a low-voltage battery storage project. Where do we start with the application?
- We first check the grid capacity at the site and whether the project can connect at low voltage. Then we prepare the single-line diagram, equipment specifications and other documents, and apply to the local utility.
- The interconnection study came back with a large construction cost contribution. Is it reasonable?
- We review the scope of the reinforcement work and why it is needed, and look for connection methods or configurations that could reduce the cost.
Process
